A UCSD staple since 1986
The Gamma Rho Chapter of Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity (ΣAM, Nickname: Sammy ) has been a part of the UC San Diego campus for decades. In 1986, the chapter was officially chartered, marking Sammy as one of the oldest fraternities on campus.
Our Chapter prides itself on recruiting men who live up to the call of being "True Gentlemen". We take great strides towards ensuring all members have a mutual sense of respect, dignity, and integrity toward one another and that they also practice those ideals when interacting with people outside of the Chapter. We consider ourselves to be one of the closest, and most well-rounded bands of brothers in the UCSD Greek system.
The friends you make during your time here at UCSD as a Sammy are the kind of friends you will hold for a lifetime. Joining this organization is no ordinary commitment. When you become a member of our fraternity, you become a member of something greater than yourself. You become a member of a family, in which you have over thirty people who you can call your brothers.
Gamma Rho has a proud history of participating in a wide range of sports over the year. Our member teams compete in several sports such as flag football, softball, and basketball. We not only compete against other fraternity teams, but we also participate in several intramural sports leagues as well. Regardless of one's athleticism, we strive to encourage every brother to go out and enjoy playing a sport while representing the Chapter.
When you join Sammy, your world of social interaction expands greatly. You will be able to interact and meet hundreds of fellow greeks, many of which typically develop into long lasting relationships. Every quarter, Sammy collaborates with several sororities and fraternities in conducting events where you can have fun and meet new people. Your time at UCSD is precious, and we welcome you to join us in making it memorable surrounded by quality individuals.
Academics are an important aspect of being in Sammy. We push our members to excel themselves academically. In order to truly be a well-rounded brother, a Sammy needs to be socially and academically balanced. If a member is having academic difficulties, we provide free tutoring to get them back on track. For those who do very well academically, we award several different scholarships available to active members each quarter.
